Salvatore Pizzurro

Born in Montelepre in 1967, he graduated from the music conservatory “Vincenzo Bellini” of Palermo in 1989.

First trombone of Palermo’s Sicilian Jazz Orchestra, he worked with the great jazzmen such as Bob Wilber (for the first Italian performance of the Queen’s Suite by Duke Ellington), Gil Evans, Archie Shenn, Bib Brookmeyer, Mal Lewis, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Paul Jeffrey, Ernie Wilkins, Sam Rivera, Francy Boland, Gunther Schuller ( for the European epitaph premiere by Charles Mingus), Carla Bley, Pete Rugolo, Lester Bowie, Clack Terry, Nathalie Cole.

He participated in jazz festivals of S. Vito Lo Capo, Sanremo, Prague, Messina, to Vocal Festival Palermo ‘90, and collaborated with Sal Genovese, Triangle Music, Guna Band, Tony Vella.
He also participated to the recording of the album “Orchestra Jazz Siciliana plays the Music of Carla bley”, for the ECM Xtra Watt/4.
